What is HEIC

HEIC is the photo format iPhones and iPads use by default. It stores the same picture in about half the space of a JPG, but many Windows apps, websites and printers cannot open it. Converting to JPG makes the photo work anywhere.

No. Conversion happens in your browser. Only the converter library itself is downloaded.

Does the photo lose quality?

JPG is lossy, but at quality 90 or higher the difference is very hard to see.

Is location data kept?

Conversion may drop some metadata. To check or remove what a JPG contains, use the EXIF viewer and remover.
