Good business decisions start with the right numbers. Should you charge more? How many units do you need to sell to cover your costs? What is your real hourly rate as a freelancer? Our business calculators answer these questions in seconds, so shop owners, freelancers, sales teams, accountants and students can check their figures without building a spreadsheet.
The finance calculators in this category cover the full cycle: setting prices, adding tax, invoicing customers, tracking cash flow, paying staff and growing your savings. Each tool shows the formula it uses, so you can understand the result as well as use it.

Key business formulas explained
- Profit margin = (Selling price − Cost) ÷ Selling price × 100. It tells you how much of each sale you keep as profit.
- Markup = (Selling price − Cost) ÷ Cost × 100. It tells you how much you added on top of your cost.
- Break-even units = Fixed costs ÷ (Price per unit − Variable cost per unit).
- Compound interest: Future value = P × (1 + r/n)n×t, where P is the starting amount, r the annual rate, n the compounding periods per year and t the number of years.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between margin and markup?
Markup is profit as a percentage of cost; margin is profit as a percentage of the selling price. An item that costs 100 and sells for 150 has a 50% markup but a 33.3% margin.
How do I calculate a break-even point?
Divide your total fixed costs by the contribution per unit (selling price minus variable cost per unit). The result is the number of units you need to sell to cover all costs.
How do I remove VAT from a price?
Divide the gross price by 1 plus the VAT rate. For example, at 20% VAT, 120 ÷ 1.2 = 100 net, so the VAT is 20.
Do the tax and payroll calculators work in my country?
You can enter your own tax rate, so the core calculations work anywhere. Because tax and payroll rules differ between countries and change regularly, always check the latest rates with your local tax authority.
