CPM Calculator

The CPM calculator finds the cost per thousand impressions of an ad campaign. Use it three ways: from spend and impressions to get CPM, from CPM and impressions to get the budget, or from CPM and budget to see how many people you will reach. Add clicks to see CTR and CPC too.

What CPM means

CPM stands for cost per mille, mille being Latin for thousand. It is the price an advertiser pays for one thousand ad impressions, and it is the standard way to compare reach across platforms, formats and audiences.

The formulas

CPM = ad spend ÷ impressions × 1,000

Budget = CPM × impressions ÷ 1,000 and Impressions = budget ÷ CPM × 1,000.

CTR is clicks divided by impressions, and CPC is spend divided by clicks.

Example. You spend $500 and get 125,000 impressions. CPM = 500 ÷ 125,000 × 1,000 = $4.00. With 1,250 clicks, CTR is 1% and CPC is $0.40.

Questions people ask

What is a normal CPM?

It varies widely by platform, country, audience and season. Display and social campaigns often fall between $2 and $15, with video and niche B2B audiences higher.

Is a lower CPM always better?

No. Cheap impressions to the wrong audience produce few clicks or sales. Judge CPM together with CTR and conversion rate.

CPM versus CPC?

CPM charges for views, CPC charges only for clicks. The calculator shows both so you can compare the buying models.
