Epoxy Resin Calculator

The epoxy resin calculator finds how much epoxy you need to fill a mould, coat a table, pour a river table or finish a floor. Enter the length, width and depth, choose the mix ratio, and see the total volume plus the exact amount of resin and hardener to measure out.

How to work out the amount

Volume is length × width × depth. Convert to litres or fluid ounces, add a waste allowance for what stays in the mixing cup and for uneven surfaces, then split the total by the mix ratio printed on your product. Epoxy is measured by volume or by weight depending on the brand, so follow the datasheet.

Resin = total × ratio ÷ (ratio + 1) for a ratio of ratio:1.

Example. A 48 × 24 in tabletop poured 0.125 in (1/8 in) deep is 144 cubic inches, or 2.36 litres. With 10% waste, mix 2.6 litres. At a 1:1 ratio that is 1.3 litres of resin and 1.3 litres of hardener.
Thick pours generate heat. Deep casting resins are made for pours of 1 to 2 inches or more, while table-top coatings are made for thin layers. Pour thicker than the product allows and it can overheat, crack or yellow.

Questions people ask

How much epoxy do I need per square foot?

At 1/16 in thick, about 1 US gallon covers about 25 square feet of coating. At 1/8 in the same gallon covers about half that.

Do I measure by weight or volume?

Check the product label. Many bar-top resins mix 1:1 by volume. Some systems must be weighed instead.

How much waste should I add?

Ten percent is typical. Add more for rough wood that soaks up the first coat.
